The Segway Ninebot ES 2 Review
Segway’s ES2 is an upgrade to the ES1, which has enjoyed hugely successful sales since its release in 2017. According to many users, it is one of the best things to happen in the electric scooter industry. While both the ES 1 and 2 may appear the same, the ES 2 offers some significant upgrades which are worth considering for anyone looking for a scooter. Not to mention the fact that the ES 2 also comes with the option of adding another battery to extend its range.
What to Expect?
To start with the ES2 comes with a 300W hub motor which is 50W higher than the one on the ES1. The motor has a 600W peak which means better torque. However, it does deliver the same 15.5MPH of top speed, along with the same type of lithium battery. It can also run for up to 15.5 miles on a single charge.
The scooter is powered with an approximately 36V/5.2Ah battery; we are assuming this because Segway does not provide much if any information about the battery on their homepage. So, we had to calculate this based on the assumption that it is a 36V system.
Also included in the ES2 is a rear suspension system along with front shock mounted above the front tire. The effect of this is reduced bumps which could otherwise be felt with the hard rubber tires like in the ES 1.
Visible and Safer
The Segway Ninebot ES 2 is also comparatively more visible thanks to the addition of rear lights, as well as lights mounted under the footpad. Also, the headlight is fairly bright offering good visibility at night.
Easy to Use
The bright LCD display provides users with real-time information like battery life, speed, and has an ODOmeter. Also available is Bluetooth, which means you can download the mobile app for Android and iOS, and play around with features like the speed, and the built-in regenerative braking.
The app also allows users to check the scooter’s real-time historical data, as well as update the firmware. Though don’t expect any drastic changes with the updated firmware apart from minor bug fixes.
Should you buy it?
Weighing just 28 lbs, the easily foldable ES 2 is just as durable as the ES 1 yet offers many improvements. It is a smarter, more useful scooter that goes beyond just providing the basics. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a daily driver that’s easy, comfortable and fun.
